Review of Party Monster (2003) by Brandon V — 08 Dec 2010
It's amateurishly assembled and lifelessly directed, but the subject matter is lurid enough to keep us interested. The true story behind the film is fascinating. Culkin does not technically give a good performance - every line is overemphasized like he's auditioning for a middle school play - yet somehow he makes the character of Alig likable.
The pretty, earnest boy-next-door who becomes utterly corrupted and hooked on 3 or 4 different substances. Seth Green is effortless and fantastic, and the rest of the cast - in their limited screen time - are solid, too.
