Review of Parting Glances (1986) by Peter F — 06 Feb 2013
Bill Sherwood's sole film (before his tragic death from AIDS) is an honest portrait on gay culture and the then new HIV epidemic. Although certainly grave in subject matter, Parting Glances is playful for the most part, and Steve Buscemi, in only his second film role, is a pleasure as always to watch.
Some of the film's most comical scenes feel a little out of place, and not everyone will care for the ambiguous ending, but Parting Glances was enough to label Bill Sherwood as an important component for queer cinema.
