Review of Parkland (2013) by Adrian Z — 18 Oct 2013
Over the years JFK has become an increasingly larger than life figure, so much so its easy to lose focus on his humanity and how tragic his assassination was. This film offers a fresh point of view on these awful events by providing an almost documentary account of what happened right after the President's assassination, and its effect on people who became players in the chaos that immediately ensued.
To get a sense of how this film is angled, Giamatti, who has one of the main roles in the film plays Abraham Zapruder, the man traumatized who from shooting the now historic footage of the President's motorcade the moment he was fatally wounded in the head.
Thornton plays the secret service agent who brings Zapruder under his protection. Doctors, agents, and even Lee Harvey Oswald's family - for whom some touching scenes are also reserved - form part of the account.
The result is arresting, and extremely emotional.
