Review of Paris, Texas (1984) by Derek W — 23 May 2008
Such an emotionally beautiful and well-crafted fillm about love and, in the end, selflessness. The monologue Stanton's Travis delivers to Kinski's Jane, like the one Bruno Ganz's Damiel delivers to Dommartin's Marion at the end of Wings of Desire, is one of the greatest monologues I think in the history of cinema.
The movie would still be worth watching just for that scene if the rest of the film were terrible -- but it's not. It's poetic, lyrical, elegaic, and perhaps even haunting. One of the greatest films of the 1980s.
