Review of Paris, Texas (1984) by Aimee A — 19 Nov 2010
Gorgeous beyond belief. Shed some new light about Sam Shepard for me. His script is absolutely magnetic while only using simple every day dialogue that is very real. That is the brilliance of Shepard, he can say so much with few words.
There is not much action at all, it's slow paced with well shot on the road scenes, but there is so much magical camera work that captures bright blue colored skies and haunting imagery like subdued neon lights that gives it such a personal and solitary atmosphere.
The chemistry of all the actors is what carries it to a fundamental level. Harry Dean Stanton gave a performance of a life time with everyone else not far behind him. I always have this giant pain in my heart in the famous booth scene and at the end.
So heart breaking and yet so moving. Consistently keeps me thinking about it after it ends.
