Review of Paris, Texas (1984) by Kim B — 07 Apr 2012
I have a feeling I am going to end up revisiting this a year from now and loving every minute of it. The first thing that grabbed me was the look of it; visually, it's a knockout. I've only ever seen about three movies that looked as good as "Paris, Texas.
" (The second thing was that it initially reminded me of "Rain Man" when the scene with the plane came along, but since it completely changed shortly after I am not going to dwell much on that.
) I won't lie, though: the length was a total turn-off (not the movie's fault, I just have a diminished attention span, especially when watching movies at home). I can't say it should've been shortened despite this.
Everything about it seemed spot-on to me. The pacing wasn't too slow or too fast, considering the story, and it didn't seem to be drawn out any more than it needed to be. The acting was great too (or maybe it's just that I never saw anyone in this in anything else beforehand that made them feel more like real people to me.
.. whatever, they were still really good). There's no doubt in my mind that this is a solid, stunning, very interesting and unique movie... I just couldn't get fully involved in it. I will definitely revisit it, though.
