Review of Paris Je T'aime (2006) by Melody T — 15 Apr 2009
I actually really enjoyed this one - though I've not heard anything very good of it - and maybe the biggest reason for that is that I didn't watch it at once. I watched 2-5 short movies every day, so I didn't have to rush into new stories and forget the old ones all the time.
I can believe that this one doesn't work as a whole at all. None of the movies is brilliant, none of them sucks bad - there's some very good ones and some quite lame, but I found something interesting in every one of them, would it be the use of camera, an imaginative idea, nice chacraters, new thoughts, or just the picture of Paris it gave.
Worth watching how different directors explore human emotions and Paris or just toy with the camera (like, what the hell was that Elijah Wood - LoTR parody - vampire stuff??), I really had great time with Paris je t'aime, perfect for relaxing.
Romantic flashes of Paris and people's lives. Hard to say which ones were my favourites; Coen brother's man in the Tuiliers metro war just hilarious. How does Juliette Binoche always succeed to be so luminous.
..? I liked the stories of the old couples too... The one with Natalie Portman was quite nice too... etc. Worst ones included the ones which just tried to be really weird without being interestingly weird (Elijah Wood, chinese hairdresser, the mimes).
