Review of Paris Is Burning (1991) by Bradford G — 16 Jul 2011
I saw this years ago and only recently saw it again. While it doesn't quite have the punch that it once had, it is still an intriguing look at a subculture within a subculture. What once may have shocked or thrilled now tends to sadden as you realise very few of the people made it through this alive (for a variety of reasons).
As much a look at tribal culture (and how people who have been marginalised and cast aside can ascend to "legendary" status) as anything else.
