Review of Pariah (2011) by William M — 29 Dec 2011
A flawless work of art. Deeply layered and effortlessly complex, Dee Rees gives us naysayers about the current state of "black cinema" reason to believe again. I found the acting superb, the writing extraordinary, and the cinematography some of the best of the year.
But more than anything, the direction put on display here is most impressive. Not since Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing have I been more excited to see what comes next from this fresh new voice in cinema.
