Review of Pariah (2011) by Angela C — 12 Jan 2012
This story of a black lesbian teenager growing up in a rough New York neighborhood is like a washed over Spike Lee experiment from 1995. The story feels puzzlingly dated and irrelevant for our modern age.
To make things worse there are so many standard cliches and conventions that I fear even more indie films are going to have less to say as our future unfolds. Even with it's short 86 minute length- it's a painfully slow and barely interesting process to get to any real emotional payoff- which turns out to be so mild and familiar that it's hardly worth the trip.
