Review of Pariah (2011) by Craig Dylan W — 22 Jan 2012
As a person who thinks 97% of American films dealing with sexuality are crap, I must really thank filmmaker Dee Rees and hope that she has a big future in filmmaking tat gets to continue what she has done here.
This film feels very honest in a way that few films with this subject do? And how often do we get to see the coming out story from the point of view of an African American female. The answer is not often and not often enough.
Adepero Oduye gives a great honest natural performance as alike. The one weakness of the film is that I thought the parents were fascinating but not developed enough, and I would have preferred less of her best friend, just because I didn't find her as interesting as the parents.
