Review of Parenthood (1989) by Craig T — 07 Mar 2011
A brilliant Steve Martin movie that packs a few laughs and also a subtly touching story. This movie has a great family reunion, with many different interesting characters and their assorted struggles. Keanu Reeves is hilarious. Rick Moranis is funny. Joaquin Phoenix, Dianne Wiest...every cast member gave excellent performances. Ron Howard's first-rate dramatic comedy Parenthood, with Steve Martin headlining a first-rate cast in a most clever script about the joy and pain of being both a parent and a child. Ron Howard's Parenthood is a delicate balancing act between comedy and truth, a movie that contains a lot of laughter and yet is more concerned with character than punch lines.
VERDICT: "Full Price" - Second highest rating in the system (Positive to Mixed reaction). This is a rating to a movie I view as very entertaining and well made, and definitely worth paying the full price at a theater to see or own on DVD. It is not perfect, but it is definitely excellent.
