Review of Parental Guidance (2012) by Ladyashley888 . — 18 Jun 2013
Sometimes one doesn't need something perfect to enjoy it. Parental Guidance is the story of Artie, a recently fired sports announcer for a Minor League baseball team, who is called upon by his daughter to watch her kids while her and her husband are away.
Reluctantly agreeing to do so, Artie travels with his wife, Diane, to watch over them, while also learning a little bit about them as well. Let's get one thing straight here, Parental Guidance is neither original nor clever.
It's another generic family comedy that does use some jokes for the lowest common denominator. There are a lot of jokes that don't hit, especially in the first half of the film. It's not until a scene at his grandson's baseball "game" that causes the film's comedy to pick up.
That being said, I was still able to enjoy this film, mainly because I was watching it with my family. This is certainly something that I wouldn't watch on my own time, especially since it's incredibly predictable from the first minute.
However, it's a good escape for families to go to when they just want to spend some quality time together. Parental Guidance isn't a bad movie, but it's just something that you should watch with your family (especially if there are young kids) rather than by yourself.
