Crystal, Midler and Tomei make a perfect combination for this funny but heartwarming family film designed primarily as multiplex fodder for the holidays. There are smiles and tears, love and affirmations, a few funny jokes and a lot of easy sentimentality.
Although it all feels a bit obvious, perfunctory and dated, it turns out to be the family friendliest move in a long time.
