Review of Parasite (2019) by Umaumai — 29 Jan 2020
I’ve been waiting for the hype train to slow down to watch this movie so I could try to go into it without any expectations. I will say everything I’ve heard and read has been very positive about the experience of watching it from friends, users and critics alike.
I’ve seen all of Joon-Ho Bong’s films and while I’ve never out right hated any of them, I’ve never thought that they were for me. They tend to be unpleasant and have an obsession with being locked away both physically and emotionally from the outside world.
This movie is probably the one I’ve liked the least on first viewing. I didn’t feel like any character was particularly clever and no one had any redeeming qualities. In the end I just didn’t care what happened to anyone in the movie.
While that seems to be what Bong is trying to incite, the main thrust of the movie was just too boring and left me unimpressed.
