Review of ParaNorman (2012) by David B — 08 Feb 2013
Tweens, rather than children, will savoir its snarly bite, although like the shambling on-screen cadavers, the story needed a bit more meat on its bones. The plot is rather good though, about a boy who can see ghost and talk to dead people and it's only him who can save his little town.
The voice acting is perfect, cast very carefully to reflect and bring the characters to life but the story it's self does dip and becomes rather slow and somehow I expected it to be better but the film does have heart and is very funny, the final third of the film was quite engaging and very well done, though predictably is not it's strong suit it does end very well.
The best thing about this film is of course the stop-motion animation: It's wonderful and films like these are better than some (but not most) CGI animation, Ingenious and wonderfully detailed, though better in its imaginative horror than its slightly too-broad comic knockabout.
Watch it though, it is well worth a look but it does dip in the middle, though it's the animation that'll keep you hooked.
