Review of ParaNorman (2012) by Kyle H — 09 Feb 2013
This nice stop-motion feature gets kudos for being very thoughtful and creative. The message of the piece (essentially: bullying solves nothing) is carefully delivered. ParaNorman's script is generally thought-provoking (particularly toward the end) and interesting.
The voice talent as well does not fail to impress. Unfortunately, the beginning of the film is belabored with pointless, distracting and crude humor that detracts from the "meat" of the story.
It is also somewhat caught between childish, adult-oriented or somewhere in between (which is where the story works best). In the end analysis: the benefits of being exposed to ParaNorman's story certainly outweigh the silly or unnecessary parts.
