Review of ParaNorman (2012) by Jonathan P — 31 Jul 2014
ParaNorman was hilarious while at the same time being thoughtful. The storyline was very interesting and I laughed so hard when it came to the characters' chemistry and their reaction to the terrifying events. I know that alot of people think the characters are bland, but I would argue that was the point. As in this movie is parodying 80s horror movies. The blonde teenager in distress. The buff moron. The writers know how to create these characters without going too overboard.
One of the film's main topics is bullying, which I think was a perfect angle to use for this film. You feel sorry for Norman even if he is a little weird (okay, make that very weird. He talks to dead people for crying out loud!). I also love the score for this movie. It's very peaceful to listen to.
The stop motion visuals were top notch and the characters were both lovable and very well developed, partly due to the strong voice acting. The animation was also amazing, especially during the climax where everything awesome came together into one. If you enjoy stop-motion with smart, witty humor, then this movie is right for you.
8/10 Amazing.
