Review of ParaNorman (2012) by Jose Gabriel S — 20 Sep 2014
While it boasts top notch stop motion animation the film's lacks in substance and originality. The premise of a boy different because of some supernatural element has been explored before in much better writing and paranorman doesn't really try to do something different leading to a lot of predictability. Apart from 1 or two funny jokes there's not much to keep me engaged and at some points the film can be incredibly mean spirited. For example the scene were the father implies that he would have never wanted Norman to have been born was rather shocking to the audience so much that I heard someone in my theatre say: "wow, what a jerk".
So despite it's familiar story and color full animation there's nothing enough to get my younger siblings to rewatch it again.
