Review of ParaNorman (2012) by Stephanie L — 31 Jul 2013

This movie is good but not great. Music and animation is as expected (awesome) but the story drags as a whole. Norman's whole power of speaking to the dead wasn't even necessary until almost half the movie was over when speaking to the zombies and almost all the parts before with the ghosts could have been done with living people instead and not made much difference which is sad.

Norman himself is an annoying wimp who could have used more discretion to handle his ability but thinking doesn't seem to be a strong point of his. (whining on the other hand is more his natural talent) Most of the characters we see have no real use story wise and are just included to take up time between - what should be- important scenes.

What irks me the most is the movie had such potential but was made to follow the resent trend in entertainment of making the adults idiots and the kids are only slightly smarter. If we had gotten a chance to get to know the characters more then would have actually cared about the witches curse affecting the town but as is I was left wondering why Norman didn't just let them all fend for themselves.
