Review of ParaNorman (2012) by Haydn E — 13 Feb 2014
From the Director of Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas comes..... Alright, that intro probably told you everything you need to know. Our protagonist, Norman, is tasked with stopping a zombie uprising and ending a horrible curse.
Oh and he just so happens to speak to dead people, no big whoop..... I really enjoyed this movie. The humor was quick and contained plenty of references to horror films of the past and present. This is another family film that veers more towards adults, but I think kids will like it as well.
The imagery is never too scary and most of the ghosts are played for laughs. The stop motion animation is beautiful. The story felt a bit clichéd: misfit struggles to fit in but is tasked with saving the day.
The film also ended on a needless gay joke, but on the whole this was definitely a good film.
