Review of Paranormal Entity (2009) by Jarrett M — 25 Dec 2011
Paranormal Entity is essentially a rip-off of Paranormal Activity. Except that it completely fails to create or maintain any level of tension or even throw some decent scares at the audience. The story is identical, except it moves at a snail's pace, managing to be slower than it's inspiration.
Whereas PA used thhe down time between scares to tell the story or build up tension, PE fails to do anything between poorly attempted scaresbut bore the audience. It even uses an exceptionally small amount of nudity to try and hold an audiences attention.
A cheap and ineffective solution that absolutely doesn't work. The cast is terrible across the board, not a one of them makes me even remotely buy into their characters. I can't think of any reason to recommend this other than to see how not to make a movie like this.
Or perhaps if you need something to help you fall asleep. Paranormal Activity or Grave Encounters are smaller budget movies that effectively create atomosphere and scares. Hell, just about any movie shoot first person creates better scares than this.
Stay away. For the love of everything, stay away.
