Review of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014) by Pedro M. R — 06 Jan 2014
First of all, I want to say that I loved the actors from beginning to end. Unlike some other Paranormal Activity movies, these actors convinced me that this was actually happening in a Hispanic community. I feel that there are some cliche regarding them, and some stereotypical views of the Mexican community, but they elaborate the story very well.
I also must praise the movie in one very important respect: what I love about this movie is the whole process of degeneration of one of the main character while being demonically possessed (I am not spoiling anything here, just watch the trailers with care). This one seems to concentrate more on the character than giving surprise scares. Some of the special effects, while obviously low budget, were impressive. I also loved the special effect of the witches being shot (blown away) in the end.
Downers: As usual, the movie has exactly the same structure than the rest: at the beginning something suggests to you that something is going on, and the intensity of the horror gradually increases to the usual ending (whoever is holding the camera has an unfortunate end). I think that at the very end, we have a preview of _Paranormal Activity 5_.
I just hope that all of these movies lead up to something BIG eventually. I would hate to think that _Paranormal Activity_ will consist of spiritual possessions and kidnapping of people with no movie that will give us a big payoff.
Finally, there is too much shaky cam... I was dizzy at one point in the movie.
