Review of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014) by Bill R — 08 Apr 2014
I could lie and say the last half of didnt scare me but then I did see this without the lights on. The last big part as the last few films always do is what may have saved this movie for me. Surely with a new take this film feels more open to bend rules or maybe give more to go in the scare department, but yet its just like a junkie or a food chain that cant adapt, it just doesnt see the nneed to change.
Now I was completely sold on the whole tying this film to the other.films series and giving more depth into what has really been going on the last few movie, well... Maybe just the fourth one, which compared to this is STILL the weakest one that this should have been the fourth movie. I thought there was some twists and some good ideas but doesnt bring that vibe insteads tries too hard to make it real and believable. But from the jjump from the church, to the basement scene, which is basics in horror film 101 but hey im a sucker for a good scare in the moment, to the end where we nnot only retrace steps, it sort of at one part causes more confusion and question that wont have a smart answer.
I hate spoilers so I wont ruin it for u. But the ending would have been way better with more explaination but I guess when u think about it and follow the story of the last four movies, it gives u an okay picture and my opinion is it would have been better trying to connect EVERY dot on the page. Some answers are left unheard. Yet if you really want answers to those burning PA questions, this will do it. Just dont get ur hopes up.
Final grade 1st half=D 2nd half=B- so in general, C+. This film should.thank God it was after PA 4, it made it better.
