Review of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014) by Jc E — 20 May 2014

Okay, I'll give this movie one thing - and that's pretty much it - it does do a pretty interesting job of tying back to the original film, despite being set almost entirely apart. That said, it's kind of lackluster compared to the rest of the series.

When it's not pandering to the Hispanic community, it's trying too hard to be fresh but comes off as an amalgamation of other horror films and takes a few cues from the overrated 'Chronicle'.

The found-footage genre has all but run its course and the lunacy of how every important moment is captured on film is just getting laughable. Though, in an age of iPhones, YouTube, and everyone wanting their own reality series, maybe it's not so unbelievable.

But that's a whole other rant entirely. I'm not sure where they're going to go with this series, but it seems like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel. It could have been worse, but it could have been much, much better.
