Review of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014) by Charles G — 06 Jun 2014
(17%).
I'm no fan or expert of the series, and this does little to make me want to change that fact. Every time I watch a movie made in this style I just can't help but notice how uncinematic everything looks, it really has little to no place on the big screen as it just doesn't reach the required level of quality. Maybe as a limited run, or as a direct to video platform, but how the industry expects a profitable wide release from this to me shows a severe case of dumbing down and a total lack of ambition. This, just as every other found footage movie, is dull, ponderous, and badly made, I didn't care about any of the characters, I didn't care about what little unfolded, and none of the scares worked because they've all been done before (spooky little girls? must try harder). It does have some moments of mild interest here and there, but a full length feature this is not.
