Review of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015) by Josh O — 22 Oct 2015
Somehow, the final installment of this aging franchise fails to create anything remotely scary. All of the jump scares are painfully telegraphed, and seem to exist for the sake of the gimmicky 3D, rather than the film itself.
Also, the characters must set some kind of record for most "what was that?" lines. Even the film's promise of finally showing Toby falls utterly flat, as he turns out to be a generic CGI monster that is far from the terrifying, unseen presence in the other films.
For the first third of the movie, we are treated to repeated shots of particles floating in the air, and it feels so silly that you wonder what happened to the promising premise. By the end of the film, I was at least hoping for a slightly satisfying conclusion with a real fright or two, but then the credits rolled, making me feel very cheated.
The only positive to this film is that the franchise is finally over.
