Review of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015) by Matthew D — 22 Oct 2015
I've been a huge fan of the Paranormal franchise since it's premiere in 2009. Aside from the Marked Ones, I've faithfully been to every premiere of the franchise for 6 years, including The Ghost Dimension. With that said, I'm sorry to say that TGD falls indescribably short.
The characters are incredibly bland, and the move to CGI really detracts from what made the opening films of the franchise so great, namely the lack of focus on jump scares and the slow build up of tension.
The one thing that TGD does succeed at (marvelously I might add), is the ability of the characters to completely ignore basic logic. I don't want to give too much away, but I will say that one would think the appearance of a massive spiritual blob of darkness clearly recorded on camera would dictate a move (or literally any other response), but alas after a convenient fade to black after a night of clearly demonic haunting, the characters are all too willing to shrug off the obvious malevolence in favor of believing it will all work itself out. Spoilers - It doesn't.
