Review of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015) by Gomi A — 23 Oct 2015
Paranormal Activity in 3D? Isn't the franchise renowned for showing that less is better? It works because you DON'T see any ghosts. What you can't see is freakier. The found footage genre is supposed to be more realistic, so if you add dingy, over-the-top special effects doesn't it make it LESS realistic? Doesn't the 3D completely defeat the purpose of this genre?
It does, and the stupidly titled Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, which is reportedly the final movie in the series, puts a huge stake in the franchise. I purposefully did not see this in 3D, and a while back when I heard that it was gonna be in 3D I begged and begged that it was just a rumor. From the second the 3D starts and we see the demon, "Toby", the movie sucks. This is a found footage movie! Not a special effects movie!
The Ghost Dimension is not the least bit scary, and though it adds a bit more to the story it still leaves a ton of questions unanswered. And (SPOILER ALERT) it ends the exact same as the previous 5 movies. A character gets killed and then the camera stops recording and goes to black. Wow. How original.....
