Review of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015) by Ant S — 26 Oct 2015
Scary but ultimately a bit flat. This is the final film and promised to answer all the questions. The inclusion of this entry being 3D is annoying but, for once, uses it's 3Dness to a good effect. Yes you get to see the activity and it does get going a bit quicker but there are some highly annoying plot devices such as other people not believing the camera operator - why not just watch the tape? Then you'll see what's messed up! The scares are done well and there are the classic lingering shots that make you see things that aren't really there until something actually happens.
The plot is not bad but the way the film starts is quite annoying as the story starts off from the end of the 3rd one but has a distinct change in what happened which is completely wrong. I dislike writing spoilers but here is one that I feel that has to be written in.
(Adult) Katie has been a staple in every single film of the franchise linking all of them together but in this final instalment she is not in it at all (only mentioned by name). It would have very simple to write her in.
I enjoyed it all the way through with the usual "why are you still filming??" moments and it was good to get some answers but definitely not enough use of the "time-travel" aspect and the final few moments are stupid as actual people disappear and reappear too quickly for them to actually go anywhere which is annoying.
I left the cinema feeling a bit let down but hopeful that it is now finished. (Until the reboot or next sequel, that is).
