Review of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015) by Brett B — 07 Nov 2015

The PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchise comes to a close (supposedly, anyway...) not with a bang, but with a relative whimper. To be fair, there's nothing offensive or aggressively awful about it, but it basically just sits there, a limp jump scare showcase that tries to tie together all of the prior events and mythology of the franchise into a tidy bow, but - basically - fails to do it in any kind of satisfying or coherent way.

Creatively, the gas tank is empty for the most part; the central gimmick (involving the titular "Ghost Dimension") is conceptually sort of cool, but the execution isn't terribly effective, even as it yields a couple singular moments that have some creepy impact.

For the most part, though, even the big scare moments fail to pop. At this point, the series is what it is; if you really dug the previous installments, you'll probably find stuff to like here. But, if - like me - you've found the series to be a bit more hit-or-miss, you might not find much in here to really elevate it above even the more pedestrian entries.

THE GHOST DIMENSION is nowhere near as good as the first or third entries (both of which I would call very good and effective movies), nor does it even rise to the level of the kinda okay spinoff installment, THE MARKED ONES; for me, it resides down with the second and fourth entries comprising the lower half (quality-wise) of the series.
