Review of Paranormal Activity 4 (2012) by Jc E — 25 Apr 2013
Say what you will about this franchise, but it does seem to keep things rather fresh. After the last film in the series, which stretched authenticity to a near breaking point, this film resumes the saga back in the near present.
It takes advantage of mobile recording devices, and brings back some principal characters in a chilling new chapter. Don't misunderstand, it's still lacking the primary focus that made the original so creepy (but still frustrating to those who are intrigued by demons, etc.
) but it approaches the story with a less is more mantra. There's still the cheap scares, but there are a few refreshing technological twists that help the story play out. It's not the best chapter in the franchise, but it's one that will probably make the viewer semi-begrudgedly anticipate what's in store for the next, inevitable chapter.
