Review of Paranormal Activity 4 (2012) by Vincent D — 28 Sep 2013

I don't know what it is about these movies but I love them. This movie is really not that different from the other three. The twist is that the paranormal phenomena is being sensed by the daughter in the family, and adds more creepy kids into the mix.

The latter always makes movies a little scarier, and has for decades. Take "The Bad Seed" (1956) "The Omen" (1976), "The Shining" (1980), The Sixth Sense (1999) or Orphan (2009).

.all movie featuring a child who isn't quite right. Plain and simple these movies are full of chilling moments. And I don't think it's because it's made to look like real footage. "The Blair Witch Project" (1999) was the innovator of this technique for horror films, and was allegedly really scary but I didn't think so.

The lack of a soundtrack is always uncanny in a film, but I notice what they do with this film is before something freaky is going to happen the drone of the resonance noise of the camera does get louder.

They did modernize the cameras used to laptops and computers. I'm surprised they didn't do something with cell phone cameras, but I"m kind of glad. I think the fact that they use steady cameras makes the movie more watchable.

There's not much to discuss in the way of the plot. If you've seen any of the rest of the movies the plot is similar. It does pick up off of the end of Part 3, so there is a continuity among all the films, even though the characters are all different.

I like that as well. Bottom line is if you didn't like the other movies you won't like this one. If you did like the other ones, you should like this one, unless you're turned off by their similarities.

Another sequel is scheduled for release in 2014. I look forward to that.
