Review of Paranormal Activity 4 (2012) by Lawrence M — 15 May 2014
Safest Paranormal Activity movie I've seen. The problem is that the characters almost never feel like they're in danger.
A few scenes have actual tension, including the now mandatory ending where someone looks through a house alone in night vision when they should have called the cops.
I like found footage movies. Like the horror films that ground them, the genre proves durable enough to last despite a few (or in some opinions a majority) of bad examples.
Sadly this is one of those. The first Paranormal Activity jump started the current Hollywood found footage trend with true craft. By now even casual viewers understand the appeal: something supernatural, a first person perspective, and maybe getting surprised then laughing afterwards.
You don't go into these movies expecting much. Unfortunately for many this movie will probably hit below even those very low expectations.
