Review of Paranormal Activity 3 (2011) by Derek G — 13 May 2012

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 - I'm not the biggest fan of the franchise but I appreciate how well they ties the first two films together. This one - not so much. First let me say that this movie FALSELY ADVERTISED. A big handful of the scares they show in the trailer are NOT in the final film. The good news is, there are plenty more scares to make up for it.

This film gets to the point and the frights faster than the other two movies and the effect is MUCH more creepier. This film kicks off strong - but it isn't until the final 20 minutes of the movie where they DELIBERATELY screw with the audience (and most of all the fan base) as they blatantly sell the franchise out to a Hollywood ending that basically ensures there will be another installment next Halloween.

Without giving away the ending or any spoilers - let me just clarify for my horror fans how ABSURD the ending is.... Remember when the Halloween franchise was brought back and how it was "continued" with the underrated and under appreciated Halloween 4??? Then in Halloween 5, it left you with an unexplained cliffhanger when the mysterious man with a gun broke Michael Meyers out of jail???... Remember how long it took for Halloween 6 to come out to answer the question - and we ended up with flaming turd The Curse of Michael Meyers???.... Well, Paranormal Activity is basically your Halloween 6!!! The ending is not only disappointing, but made me yell out at the screen "FUCK THIS MOVIE!!!".....The ending is an absolute COP OUT to keep the franchise alive and profiting for another year! The filmmakers should be ashamed of themselves with that ending and "explanation"..... I hope you got a nice fat paycheck for selling out to Hollywood...... The ending ruined my enjoyable paranormal experience!!!......RATING: 4/10.
