Review of Paranormal Activity 3 (2011) by Tiffany F — 11 Jun 2012
If you know me, you'll know that I didn't like the first two Paranormal films. But I started to think about them more (I didn't watch them again, but after seeing this one, I definitely will.) and this was my conclusion: they're okay films, but they're also pretty fun films to watch if you wanna be scared. These movies don't scare me...well the jump scares sometimes get me, but they're not really scary. When I walked out of this movie this was all that was on my mind..."surprising...very surprising". I actually liked this movie. It was a pleasantly, fun time at the movie theaters and please for the love of god, see it with an empty audience(like I did). You won't have teenagers screaming and talking to each other every minute.
The movie is a prequel to the second film (which was a prequel to the first film) and this movie is about Katie and Kristi when they were kids. This wasn't the first time that they were haunted by the PARANORMAL!! OOOHH!! SPOOOKY!!!
I feel like the 'found footage' style of film has gone down the potty drain recently, but this definitely brought it back to life (and I'm sure the movies 'Chronicle' and 'Project X' will fully revive it). The cinematography in this film was great (not just the shaky cam, but also the footage during night).
It's very entertaining and although the films are kinda going back in time, I'm definitely glad that this was the last one (that is if there isn't a fourth one). This is the best in the series and the main reason why these films are either decent(first two) or good(this one) is because the filmmakers know that you don't have to use blood to scare people(example: Insidious). Overall my final grade for the film is a B+.
