Review of Paranormal Activity 3 (2011) by Horcrux2007 — 20 Mar 2015
Another good entry into the series. This one takes place in 1988 and shows "how the activity began", as started by the poster. It gives a little bit more mythology to the demon, which makes this one the most interesting of the series.
Paranormal Activity 3 is definitely the flashiest PA movie. Like the second movie, it does go bigger but, still, its subtlety isn't totally compromised. A lot of scares are played out by a more interesting camera setup: the characters move the camera a lot more, and there's one camera that pans across the room, waiting to scare us when the camera moves back to the other side of the room.
The last 15 minutes, like the previous films, is by far the scariest part, but the last scene in this one really reminded me of The Blair Witch Project, one of the scariest movies I've seen. Another particularly memorable moment was when two of the characters play Bloody Mary, and it's probably one of the best moments in the series.
Paranormal Activity 3 doesn't disappoint, whether you're a fan of the series or not. It's a consistently scary and effective horror movie that keeps the surprisingly consistent franchise fresh.
