Review of Paranormal Activity (2007) by Jadyn C — 11 Nov 2012
Before starting this review, I've got a small warning to those reading. I'm a huge fan of found-footage and that is going to make me pretty biased and generous towards this film. Now, despite the attacks that this movie, as well as it's sequels, have received, I find this movie interesting, compelling, and frightening in some instances.
Yes, it's pretty slow. And yes, it cashes into simple scares. But, in the end, I gotta appreciate what these people have done with a low budget and subtle scares. In my opinion, it's the subtle stuff that gets you most scared, because you aren't sure whether you're even supposed to be seeing what you just saw.
With that said, I really enjoyed this movie. I watched it in theaters, I bought it on DVD, and I've seen the sequels that follow. I may be biased toward the found footage genre, but, in this movie's case, I've been legitimately scared and at the edge of my seat.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but those who enjoy found footage should like this film.
