Review of Paranormal Activity (2007) by Campbell P — 31 Aug 2014
Paranormal Activity is a genre defining movie. It paved the way for future found footage movies like Chronicle and Cloverfield. While Blair Witch Project may have been a defining movie of this horror movie genre, Paranormal Activity was creepier and a tad bit more entertaining.
The whole found footage style makes the a thousand times creepier and they really embrace it. The acting was very good considering that this was the first movie for both of those main characters. The filming was very clean and made you feel like you were holding the camera.
There were no scares in this but a lot of eeriness at parts. For a low budget movie it had a lot better effects than most horror movies with a higher budget. Just look at what you can do with a budget like this! You've made one heck of a found footage film.
B+.
