Review of Paranormal Activity (2007) by Ericj. — 17 Oct 2009
There was a bit too much media hype, but make no mistake, this is a very well crafted film. Where it is most effective is the sleeping sequences. I think the director realized he had something with that footage and it works very well.
The only weakness is the Micah Sloat character. You do have to wonder why he is so willing to pursue the demon even though he knows what the consequences are for Katie. Also why didn't the both of them go for the nearest catholic priest when the demonologist was not available? Katie Featherston makes a very solid debut and carries this film.
The editing is very solid. The pacing of the narrative is perfect. This movie slowly builds to a very dramatic ending. A very solid effort. This will be the Halloween movie to see this year. Don't miss it but don't build it up too much in your mind before you see it.
