Review of Paranoid Park (2007) by Brad M — 11 Sep 2010
A skater kid with a wooden personality accidentally kills a security guard and has to cope with guilt and paranoia. Except both these emotions are never shown in the film since the main protagonist has the same robotic expression through the entire film.
The direction is mediocre along with the acting which is very stiff and wooden especially by the protagonist and his girlfriend who seems to have multiple personality disorder. None of the characters are neither interesting nor do they have any compelling dialog or any characterizations that make you care for them in any way.
Most of the film is scene after scene of slow-motion skate boarding, non audible scenes with random generic background music. The scenes are cut together and put in randomly some which are not even necessary since they have no effect in the film what so ever.
The dialogue and story are both boring and just too simple. The story goes no where and with jumbled up scenes and messy direction plus non intriguing characters. This fails to deliver the film is a mess and could easily had been 50 min movie without the slow-motion and pointless scenes.
