Review of Paranoid Park (2007) by John T — 06 Aug 2008
This felt authentic. Voice overs from a kid writing in his journal. The principal asking exact questions to see where the boy was. He even revisited questions to make sure he didn't change his story.
"where were you" "what kind of sandwich did you get" "what kind of bread" "where's the receipt" If you do sometihng wrong, remember your story. Truth doesn't really matter just as long as you stick with the lie.
Lots of real life footage from around town, skateboarding. I liked it. Reminded me of the movie Kids. More like real life than a movie. The girlfriend is the sister from gossip girl... Why thy decided to have 2 minutes of the breakup scene dubbed over with shitty music and no dialog I'm not sure.
.. maybe they lost the audio track. It sounded shitty and out of place, as did the 3 minute shower scene where all you see is the guy's hands and a bit of his face.. it's a good shot, but damn, does it need to be 3 minutes long? Some pretty crazy mistakes? were in this and some of the actors? are pretty shitty, but it really felt more like you were hanging out with your friends then watching a movie.
