Review of Paranoid Park (2007) by Eric S — 07 Aug 2008
I knew that I was liking Paranoid Park when I realized that I have no interest whatsoever in the skater crowd, yet I was completely intrigued by the main character. Some have called him zombie-like, but I really don't see that.
He's a shy, quiet kid, but it's more than obvious that he is affected by the events that he was a part of. Christopher Doyle's cinemtography was great. I could have gone without the grainy skateboarding 'highlight film' effect, but other than that he shows why he's one of the best in the business.
Anyway, Van Sant does a great job with his main character in this, which trumps the small flaws.
