Review of Paranoid Park (2007) by Joyce C — 04 Sep 2008
Exquisitely minimalist. I was occasionally disconcerted by the use of Nino Rota's score for 'Juliet of the Spirits'--what kind of auteur co-opts another's film score for his own entirely different movie? I guess Gus is pretty comfortable doing anything--he even throws in a brief 'Psycho'-homage shower scene (very nicely done).
But all the art-house shenanigans aside, there was something rare and genuine here.
