Review of Paranoid Park (2007) by Dan B — 11 Dec 2008
A normal mixed up skater kid becomes embroiled in a tragic accident and has to deal with the emotional and moral fall out. The cinematography is as you'd expect with a Gus Van Sant film, excellent.
The rest is fairly reasonable but maybe lacking a bit in depth. It sometimes feels like it's just easier to default to another beautiful cut scene with nice Elliott Smith music interlaced than to actually offer a scene of genuine substance.
That probably sounds more critical than I mean it to as the 'art' scenes are gorgeous it's just that their impact is slightly mitigated when they are served up every 4 minutes.
