Review of Paranoid Park (2007) by Jacob F — 19 Jan 2009
The style of the film, like Van Sandt's recent indie stuff, is at times breathtaking. It's structured well, shot well, and has an interesting use of music to place us in characters inner thought processes.
But unlike Last Days or Elephant, the film falls into a sort of self-assured nihilism, rather than an earnest attempt to feel and to be. Sort of a River's Edge for a new generation, only not nearly as striking.
