Review of Paranoid Park (2007) by Marissa T — 18 May 2009
I liked the film, but there were some irritating flaws. Gabe Nevins acting was pretty good, but his narration, which I guess was deliberately read, was read very poorly. I guess this adds to some sort of realism, but it honestly stood out like wrong chords in a song.
As for the rest of the cast it seemed like basic script reading. I do appreciate Van Sant's style of using real people from his locations, but I think he could have turned up some better quality with a little more casting work.
Lastly, there were many excessive slow motion shots, which killed the pace of the film and plan bored me. He could have cut out three or four and it would have made a huge improvement. So, once again I did like the film, but wanted a little more effort out of it.
