Review of Paranoid Park (2007) by Matthew B — 12 Aug 2009
Pretentious ilk from Gus van Sant. Excluding the expertly-choreographed security guard-halving sequence along the train tracks and the complementary, ingenious manipulation of the "Seid umschlungen, Millionen!" passage from Beethoven's "Choral" Symphony No.
9, little recommends this cumbrous bag of deadpan, amateur performances, a contrived, inelegantly bleak rendering of Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment by a would-be auteur.
