Review of Paranoid Park (2007) by Matthew A — 28 Jan 2011
So interesting. gus van sant is fabulous. despite scenes with poor acting on the kids' parts, van sant managed to set a tone that felt so authentic, and real - made me remember the way I dealt with my emotions when I was in middleschool/highschool, that sometimes not showing emotions is more or equally as "emotional" as when someone's crying on screen.
very teenager. very emotional with flat-surfaced depth. I enjoyed the simplicity of it, the simplicity of the logic, very realistic/naturalistic. and with the various shooting formats, it's used in a way that seems to evoke the most "truth" from each scene, even the awkward ones where the actors don't seem all that up to par - once fit into context, the overall piece is just beautiful.
