Review of Paranoia (2013) by Adrian Z — 10 Nov 2013
Liam Hemsworth is roped into corporate espionage by evil smartphone company CEO (Gary Oldman, chewing up the scenery with an evil British accent). Harrison Ford is the ruthless CEO of another smartphone company who is the target of the espionage.
Samsung vs. Apple could potentially be inferred by the premise, but confusingly many characters in the film are seen using iPhones and Apple computers, which begs the question, what market share are the two fictional companies actually fighting over, and where does Apple fit in? In any case, this "thriller" is dull and boring and never manages to generate any significant level of suspense.
Hemsworth seems a capable lead, but this is not the film for him to shine in. Dreyfuss is wasted in a poorly written secondary role, playing Hemsworth's il father.
